We can talk about the fact that planting trees is the first thing to be done for the fight against climate change and the future of the world and its power on world health. Trees are the lungs of nature. While we enjoy their beauty, their shadow, their presence, their fruit, they are silently trying to clear the air. The natural process by which all plants take in carbon and release oxygen not only gives us fresh air to breathe, but also stores carbon that contributes to global warming.
Trees are a source of oxygen, absorbing carbon dioxide and other atmospheric gases, thereby improving breathing air. They constantly draw water from the soil and play an important role in climatic conditions by evaporating this water through their leaves.
Trees provide many benefits for the continuation of life and ecosystem. The benefits of afforestation are: It fights against carbon dioxide, which is the cause of climate changes, accumulates more than necessary in the air. Trees absorb bad smell and dirty gases from the air. It produces oxygen, which is indispensable for living things. Trees can cool the air up to 11.5-12°C according to the frequency in their location. Thus, by reducing the energy spent on cooling down, it saves energy. Water is saved because trees reduce evaporation. In addition, each tree returns the excess water it uses to the groundwater. It prevents soil loss by preventing erosion on inclined places. Trees reduce ultraviolet rays by up to half. According to research, people who live in places where afforestation is high are psychologically healthier than those where afforestation is low.
Today, with the increasing world population, consumption demands, fossil fuel uses, industrialization, urbanization, globalization, technological developments and trends adversely affect the environment we live in and the whole world. However, it is seen that it causes multifaceted destruction in the physical dimension due to reasons such as the diversification and increase of human demands and needs on natural systems and resources. It is foreseen that these destructions will bring about very different negative consequences in the future. The temperature of the earth is increasing due to the greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere and creating a greenhouse effect. This temperature increase is called global warming. As a result of urbanization activities and increasing construction and the decrease or inadequacy of green areas, the increasing CO2 emission of urban centers to the atmosphere leads to the urban heat island effect.
How many trees will cities around the world need to plant to offset their carbon footprint?
As you can see in the table, it is known that urban trees play an important role in reducing CO2 emissions and storing carbon in cities. Urban trees and forests play an important role due to their multifaceted services and contributions such as turning cities into livable spaces, reducing carbon emissions, improving urban ecosystem and aesthetics, etc. The Evadore Foundation will steadily continue to reduce our world's carbon emissions by supporting the afforestation of cities around the world.
There are many tree-friendly lands available on our planet that can be used. Environmental damage can be prevented by reforestation. Reforestation can be done without any destruction, without disturbing the existing world order. Because there are already many areas on our planet where afforestation can be done. One of the main goals of the Evadore Foundation is to make our world greener.
